Fall into cozy: Simple ways to refresh your home this weekend

Oh hey, fall lovers! It’s officially pumpkin spice latte time (I may have had more than one already), and with the cooler breeze rolling in, it’s time to get our homes ready to feel just as cozy as our favorite oversized sweaters. Fall is the perfect excuse to shake up your space, bring in some rich autumn colors, and truly make it feel like a retreat from the chill outside.

Here’s how I’m transforming my space for the season, and how you can do it too—without breaking the bank!

1. Bring in Those Warm Fall Tones

Let’s talk fall color palettes! There’s something undeniably comforting about deep, earthy hues that mimic the changing leaves outside. I’m obsessed with warm oranges, soft burgundy, mustard yellows, and even the occasional deep plum. But here’s the fun part: don’t just toss a few pillows and call it a day—layer those textures and colors! I love pairing velvet cushions with chunky knit throws. And when I say throws, I mean everywhere. Draped over your couch, layered on your bed, even folded across your favorite armchair.

If you’re thinking of switching up more than just your textiles, why not take it a step further and paint a statement wall? Choose a deep rust or forest green to instantly create that fall sanctuary feeling. It’ll warm up your entire room and give you the perfect excuse to light those fall-scented candles (we’ll get to that later). Trust me, your living space will feel like a cozy autumn retreat in no time.

2. DIY Fall Decor with a Personal Touch

Fall is when my DIY heart goes wild! There’s something so satisfying about creating your own decor—plus, it’s a fun way to put your personal stamp on your space. One of my favorite DIYs this year? Handmade wreaths. You can go big and bold with a wreath full of pumpkins, pinecones, and fall foliage, or keep it simple with a few dried flowers and leaves. The best part is that you can mix and match with what you already have or what you can find on a nature walk.

And if wreaths aren’t your thing, why not try a pumpkin-painting session? I love grabbing a mix of real and faux pumpkins and giving them a makeover. Paint them in matte whites, golds, or even soft pinks for a chic, modern look. Or if you’re more of a traditionalist, try painting your pumpkins in classic fall hues and adding fun patterns like polka dots or stripes. The possibilities are endless!

3. Spice Up Your Kitchen—Literally!

It’s not fall without some serious spice! One of my favorite ways to embrace the season is by getting a little creative in the kitchen. There’s nothing that says “autumn” more than the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg wafting through the air. I love whipping up a batch of pumpkin cinnamon buns or a warm apple pie, and I swear the scent alone is enough to make your home feel 10 times cozier.

Baking isn’t just about the food though—it’s about creating an experience. Invite friends over for a fall-themed baking night or set aside a Sunday afternoon to get your spice on. Plus, don’t forget to make a little extra to share with your neighbors. Nothing beats a freshly baked loaf of pumpkin bread dropped off with a cute note! Trust me, it’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

4. Swap Out the Scents

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a candle for every season, but fall is by far my favorite. It’s time to put away those fresh, floral scents of summer and bring out the rich, spicy aromas of autumn. Think apple cider, cinnamon, and bonfire scents filling every corner of your home. Lighting a candle as the sun sets and the evenings get cooler is an instant mood booster, not to mention it gives your space that ultimate cozy vibe.

This year, I’ve been obsessed with creating little scent “zones” throughout my house. In the kitchen, I’m all about cinnamon bun and vanilla; in the living room, I go for something more woodsy like cedar or bonfire; and in my bedroom, it’s all about the sweet spiced chai or pumpkin spice. Every time you move from room to room, you get a new burst of fall. Plus, candles make the perfect decor piece—whether they’re sitting on a tray with pumpkins and pinecones or perched next to a stack of books.

Whether you’re ready to go all-out with DIYs and decor or just want to sprinkle a little fall magic into your home, this is the season to get creative, cozy, and have fun! So grab that PSL, put on your softest sweater, and let’s give your space the autumn makeover it deserves!
